Les Miserables – Musical memories and outdated women’s stereotyping January 5, 2013

Stereotypes

A very interesting article by Stacy Wolf – a professor of theatre at Princeton University and the author of Changed for Good: A Feminist History of the Broadway Musical.

She examines our culture of continual reinforcing of women’s stereotyping in media, theatre and the film industry.

I tend to think of it as a snapshot on how it really still is for women. Lip service and political correctness will not change a thing. Attitudes take a very long time to change.

Where ever one finds ignorance and a lack of education this will continue to flourish.

Sad but true.
